Monday

Clever title, huh? Matt has just left for California where he will remain until Wednesday. I am somewhat jealous that he gets to leave the polar ice cap and head for warmer weather.  And get two nights of uninterrupted hotel sleep. And not have to cook, clean, and change diapers.  I will try not to be too mean to him when he gets home.

Over the past few days we have been introducing Ava to food. We skipped over the purees and went to straight to table food. I read the book Baby Led Weaning and it made a lot of sense. So far Ava has "tried" banana, baked tofu, and broccoli. I won't lie, it makes me a bit nervous and Matt can hardly be in the room while she is eating.  I had such a nightmare of a time getting Kevin to eat I wanted to try something a bit different.  So Ava will be in complete control of what goes in her mouth. I will, of course, control her choices but other than that it will be up to her as to what she eats. The first few weeks are mostly just for fun, she feels the food and gets used to its texture.  Some goes in her mouth and comes right back out. She has gagged a few times which doesn't bother her at all. It is a learning process which will take months. At her age all of her calories are coming from breast milk and she really doesn't need table food until around age one.  Hopefully introducing food this way will encourage her to love vegetables, fruits, beans, nuts(when she is older)  and healthy grains.
