Not a Moment Too Soon

Matt returned home last night… Thank God. My three days and two nights as a single parent were not pretty. I mean, I did ok, the kids were fed, warm, and all that stuff. I just had issues with all the other stuff that has to get done.

I learned that when Sophie(the white dog) runs around like her ass is on fire with an insane look in her eye it means that the water dish is empty. Matt usually handles feeding the pets, not because I won't but because I am usually nursing a baby, changing a baby, entertaining a baby… you get the idea. Apparently Sophie felt drastic measures were needed to get my attention. As I filled the water dish(it is a 3 gallon dispenser) all 7 animals gathered around like they had not had a drink in a week. They had maybe been without water for a few hours. Drama queens….

Emily woke up on Wednesday morning with a "stomach ache". Normally I make her go to school unless she has a fever or is actively vomiting. I know, I am such a caring mom… The thought occurred to me that if I send her and she wants to come home later in the day I will have to pack up the baby and go get her. I also recalled one of my finer parenting moments of sending her to school after she complained that her stomach was hurting and she vomited on the bus. So she stayed home and I didn't even take her temperature. She had a miraculous recovery by 9:00 a.m.

One of the first things Matt did when he got home was look for the mail. I am not sure if he was amused or disgusted by the blank stare on my face when he asked where it was.  That's right, no one got the mail for three days. Didn't even cross my mind.

I was also not aware of how often the trash needs to be changed. I managed to cram it to full capacity so that I would not have to actually lift the bag and put a new one in. Because that seems like a lot of work. I saved that for Matt. I really think he enjoys it and I wouldn't want to take that away from him.

So I am back to co-parenting and not a moment too soon. Maybe it was my imagination, but I swear I saw a look of relief on everyone's face (animals included) when Matt walked through the door.
