Random Thoughts

Ava has not pooped in 13 days. I called the pediatrician and the nurse wants me to give her a suppository. I had Matt stop at CVS and buy some child size ones. I opened them and I cannot believe how big they are. I will not be giving her one.  We are going to try some prune juice. I did read that breastfed babies can go up to 14 days between bowel movements and it is unheard of for a breastfed baby to be constipated. She doesn't act uncomfortable so we will continue to be on poop watch. I may have to call my mom if Ava has to have a suppository….

Yesterday I had the most productive day of TV watching. I was nursing Ava and turned Ellen on. She is already a vegan and has now given up sugar. So I am not the only one! She invited people to go on her site and join her in giving up the white stuff.  So I went to the website and signed up.

I also caught the second half of Oprah. She was talking to Ruby who has a reality TV show chronicling her battles with morbid obesity. She used to weigh 716 pounds and is now under 350. While talking with Ruby, Oprah admitted she is a food addict. I am not sure if she has ever said it before. I know she has said she has issues with food or is an emotional eater, but I am not sure I have ever heard her say food addict. It got me thinking. How is it that Oprah, a woman that is clearly motivated, smart, successful, uber rich, and has every resource a her disposal is still struggling with this? I think it made me feel like less of a freak. If someone like Oprah can admit to the whole world that she is a food addict, I can certainly have the courage to be open about my own food addiction.

I was talking to Matt last night about my new eating habits. It has been a month, I wonder when it won't be new anymore…. He was saying that many people may see them as restrictive. No meat, no dairy, no sugar, no caffeine, no refined carbs, no added salt. Also, it pains me to do this…. no alcohol. At least not for now. Dry red wine(my favorite) has little or no sugar added, so I may drink a glass every now and then at some point.… just enough to thin the blood… You know, for medicinal purposes. Oh and vodka does not have added sugar either, just sayin'.  Despite all my "no no's",  I really feel that I eat more of a variety of foods than I used to. I think that most people eat less of a varied diet than I eat. I think I may do a post on all the things I do eat. My refrigerator is full. I need less cabinet space and a second refrigerator. I don't count calories or worry about moderation(except for added oils). I eat when I am hungry and eat till I am full. I feel less restricted than I did before. And sweet sassy molassy if I didn't find a brownie recipe to make in time for Valentine's Day. I am going to substitute chickpea flour for the whole wheat flour. I'll let you know how they turn out. Brownies that will make me fart… sounds perfect!

We are officially staying put. Matt interviewed with Google at the beginning of January. He was offered a job at the Googleplex in California.  While the offer was generous in terms of Midwest living standards, we decided that we could not maintain a similar standard of living due to the housing costs in the San Francisco Bay area. And I would of had to leave my mom and sister, sniff…sniff. I wish Google had an office in the Midwest.

I am going to try to get Ava to take naps without being held the entire time. I won't let her cry, but I think that I should be able to ease her into it. She does sleep about half the night in her crib(in our room) so she can sleep on her own. We'll see how it goes.

Tomorrow Emily does not have school, Ava has her six month well check, and Emily wants to go to school spirit night. And I said no more alcohol….. Oy vey..

Oh my goodness.. Matt should have gotten the infant size NOT the child size. The infant size is tiny. It looks like a little bubble. I hope she gets poopin soon before she gets a tummy ache.

Thanks Michelle, I thought they looked awfully big! I will go get some infant size if she needs one.

Congrats to Matt on the offer. It sounds like an incredible opportunity but I am glad to hear you are staying here. At least he has that bit of a feather in his cap! I may not be remembering correctly...did Keaton have issues with BM similar to what Ava is going through?

I have it in writing you are not moving! I may print it off and have you sign it and have it witnessed by a notary. Just saying..

Yes, Keaton had these same BM problems and they usually just worked out.

forgo the second frig. Just use a cooler outsiide. Having just come from the store with a dozen or so avacados (on SALE for .49), cauliflower for only .99 and broccoli the same, baby carrots only .49 per pound my frig will not hold things so I am using the back seat of the car in the garage.I was delighted to find FAREWAY had little signs posted on many things saying they were meeting their competitors advertised sale prices. Yeah, FAREWAY!!

Way to go on the Avocados! I love those green wonders. I wonder if all Fareways are having a sale. I am going to have to check it out.

I could watch Ava for an hour or so to clean her out. Remember when Emily pooped for like 10 minutes and I didn't have kids back then and was unsure what to do?! Then I can share that story about Ava to embarrass her when she's 10;)

Oh and our kids want to go to spirit night too. Great, kids in Riverdale t-shirts at a basketball game. I may bring a "water bottle" but I can't guarantee there will be water in it!
