Kramer

The vet visit did not go well. Our naughty cat must have jumped down off something a bit too high, landed wrong, and fractured his hip. It is the type of break the normally requires surgery. Surgery that Kramer would most likely not survive due to his multiple congenital heart defects.

At this point we are going to keep him on pain meds and hope his hip will heal enough on its own. We just really need it to heal enough that he would not be in any pain. Kramer will be x rayed again in ten days to see if there is any improvement. If there is no improvement we will have to decide if we spend $2,300 to attempt a surgery that he may not survive. Our vet is has contacted a surgeon that could potentially operate on him, they will require an echo of his heart and chest x rays before they would operate.

This just flat out sucks. I have a ten year old that is in hysterics because her beloved cat may not make it and I have to decide how far we are willing to go to try to save him. Our vet is being great and said it is not cruel to keep him at home on pain meds for the time being.  My main goal is that Kramer not be in any pain.

Another consideration is that when Kramer was diagnosed with all of his heart defects the veterinary cardiologist gave him a 2-3 year life span. He is almost 2. I am so conflicted about what to do.

For now he is ok, hanging out in Emily's room on pain medication. It is easier to make decisions when you don't have those big eyes looking up at you. I hope this turns out ok. If you think of it please send some positive thoughts Kramer's way.

Sending a boatload of positivity Kramer's way. Hoping the hip heals on it's own, those decisions are horrible to make.

I can empathize with your situation. I'm an animal lover to the core and am sending your beloved Kramer positive thoughts and wishes to get well with meds. He is so young. Take care.
